Specialty Coating Systems, Inc. (SCS) announced that its operation in Japan, Parylene Japan, LLC and received an award from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The award was given to Parylene Japan for its cooperation in JAXA’s successful project to collect surface and subsurface materials from an asteroid called “Ryugu” and bring them back to Earth. Ryugu is 186,411,358 miles away from Earth.
In order to achieve thegoal this mission consisted of four carriers: a launch vehicle, a research mother ship, a research ship and a return ship back. Parylene conformal coatings were applied to the electrical control boards of each carrier.
Tim Bender, President and CEO said “Specialty Coating Systems is proud of our Parylene Japan team for being selected to provide Parylene conformal coatings to the Hayabusa2 space mission and to play a role in the study of the asteroid Ryugu”. “Parylene Japan President Masatake Konno and his team have done an outstanding job of working with regional aerospace partners in furthering their space exploration goals.”
SCS Parylene conformal coatings are ideal for weight-sensitive components in satellites, space-borne instrumentation and other systems. The ultra-thin, pinhole-free polymer coatings provide a number of high-value surface treatment properties such as excellent moisture, chemical and dielectric barrier properties for thermal and UV stability and dry-film lubricity.
